Law is not neutral: it has never had and does not have the same effects on men, women, and people whose gender identity does not correspond to this binary distinction.
An analysis “through a gender lens” provides a better understanding of law, in its twofold dimension – as a tool of patriarchal domination and as a leverage of emancipation for women.
Drawing on law, philosophy, sociology and history, this approach focuses on the origins, manifestations and effects of gendered aspects of law. It supports therefore the achievement of effective and substantial equality between all people. This project also leads to general research on the legal phenomenon as a discursive and political fact.
